Karoo Donkey Sanctuary

As advertised, a couple of us ventured back to the K.D.S on the weekend of the 8/9th April to once again Make a Difference in the Community.

We departed on Friday, loaded to the hilt with good sponsored by members and donations, joined by Cliff, Neil & Desiree, Mark and Haley. After driving through some heavy rain we arrived at yet again a beautiful holiday house that Mark had found us. Very well appointed, new, neat and comfortable.

Saturday morning arrived and off we went to the Donkey Sanctuary where we met up with Raymond and Rudi from the Southern Cape Jeep Club. Yet again, what a pleasant surprise. The facility is really well kept. On our arrival we were introduced to the new members of the family and our work plan for the day was discussed.

Gates were erected, welding repairs done, animal feeding and burning of bush that was cleared. Once again it was a long hot day, thank goodness for the awesome carrot cake that the ladies brought us from town.

At around 4pm we decided to call it a day, a good one at that, packed up and returned to the holiday house where exhausted we all just lazed around on the grass, talking about the achievements of the day.

Customary braai fire was lit and we had a good dinner amongst great friends.

Fortunately we did not plan to return on Sunday via Swartberg Pas as we probably would still have been building a road. The thunderstorm was spectacular, pity about the damage but it sure was needed.

We wish thank the following people for their kind donations:

MACSTEEL - Heinrich Vollgraaff (aka The Infidel) for organising new IBR roof sheets.
CONVEYCO - Neil for the kind use of the trailer.
FIRE 247 - Welding gloves, bush hooks, fire beaters, water for the day.
HALEY - For getting the horse food at a good deal.

Financial contribution from: Sean Hill, Romano Quintal, Lizanne Gomes, Clifford Kent, Neil Muller, Mark Esterhuizen, Ian Newton and one unknown kind person.

Any further contributions that you may want to make can be paid directly into:

It really is an awesome operation and well worth the effort.
